School Magazine contents page

For my contents page i will use an image from the recycle fashion show and have the articles and news based around the image. I looked at other magazines to compare how they organise their contents and the placements of the text and imagery. As both of the school magazines i analysed for this project " King Edward VI and FFH" don't have contents pages i decided to look at a college magazine instead.
As you can see the contents information is placed in the middle so that it becomes the main focus of the page and the reader gives it immediate attention. It is made clear that this page is a contents page by the large font title in front of the black background block. This then follows a subtitle which divides the contents of the magazine into sections about particular topics, this makes it easier to locate specific information quickly instead of reading through each and every topic within a list. They have used large font sized for the numbers of the pages so that it is clear for readers to see and so they don't mistake turning to the wrong page. They have also used images to describe a topic rather than using text, this gives the contents variety and breaks up the amount of text. It also gives the contents page some variety for the reader who will find everything more  interesting and will want to read the magazine. Some of the images are larger than others, this shows particular importance about a topic. The two colourful images either side of the contents page is irrelevant to the whole topic of the magazine but are used for effect and to make the content page look more attractive.  Also the background used is plain white , which allows all of the information on the page to stand out and clearer to read and see.

My School Magazine

My magazine is by Savannah College of Art & Design and is called "Inspire". I decided on this name for the magazine as i thought it is an art school, and pupils are encouraged to be creative and be inspired by there surroundings and other artist's work and it relates to art. I thought the name was short and simple and got straight to the point. The font i will use is Monotype Corsiva. This is because i think it flows very nicely on the front cover of the magazine and will compliment with the photo of the front cover , giving a elegant and girl appearance . Also its very sophisticated and has a lot of curves to the lettering which is quite artistic like. I will have the name of the magazine on the top centre of my front cover. This will make it noticeable and stand out but not take away from the photo on the cover . Also i think by having a strong yet simple title that appeals to people, will make it attract  to people and lead them into buying it.Other magazines that have done this are ELLE which is french for She , this is a good name for the magazine as it is short and simple but easily recognisable. Also the word ELLE refers to the target audience that it's magazine is aimed for which is women .
The font style they used is very strong and bold and really stands out on the front cover of the magazine which is what you want in order to grab peoples attention. For the colour of my font i will be using red or black which will compliment the front cover photo and will give a sophisticated, elegant look. It will also make the font stand out clearly and will make a bold statement on the front cover.
For my front cover i have a photo image of the schools recycle fashion show which also features the image of the girl who won it. This gives a glimpse of what there is to offer in the magazine and will attract those who art both interested in art or fashion.

Magazines

I am now doing a new project on magazines, which i have already started doing. As part of my primilary task i must look and analyse two school magazines. After comparing the two i must also analyse a school magazine contents page and double page spread. I must then create my own school magazine including a front cover, contents page and double page spread.
So far i have compared Two school magazine from Ferns community sports college and King Edward VI high school for girls. There are easy recognisable differences between the two for instance, on the front cover of Fern community college magazine "FFH" , there are a mixture of boys and girls where as on King Edwards VI "High Profile" it is all girls. This could indicate that they aim there magazine at different audiences.  Another difference between the two are there use of camera angles. On FFH magazine , the pupils are all looking up creating a high angle shot. This could represent them looking up to an authoritative figure e.g. a teacher who will guide them and give them direction in any sport or activity that they do at the school.
On High Profile magazine , they have used  a simple mid shot of three pupils how seem happy. One feature that FFH magazine has that High Profile doesn't have is that it is much easily identifiable, in way that you know its a magazine about a sports college as the pupils on the front cover are all holding sport equipment. where as High profile , you not quiet sure what the magazine is all about.
One similarity that they both share is there use of colour on their front covers,  they both use bright and vibrant colours to engage audiences and to catch peoples attention.  Another similarity they share is they are both designed to inform. They both feature articles and news on up coming however , they are aimed at different audiences. For example King Edwards VI magazine is designed and made by sixth form students and is for the students at the school , where as FFH is for both parents and pupils. Also in comparison of the number of pages in each magazine , FFH has only 5 and King Edward VI has 24.

When it came to analysing there contents pages, neither of them have one and just jump into the first article of the magazine. This would be helpful if they had one , as it would give consumers guidance and a better understanding of what the articles and news are about. Also it would be beneficial for customers to go straight to and article by looking at the news article instead of flicking through the pages.

Analysis of a Horror film

Hostel
Director : Eli Roth , Quentin Tarantino
Stars : Jay Hernandez, Derek Richardson, Eythor Gudjonsson
Plot: 3 backpackers are in Amsterdam where they get locked out of their youth hostel. They are invited into a man's house where he tells them of a hostel somewhere in eastern Europe where the women are all incredibly hot and have a taste for American men. When they get there, everything is too good to be true - the hostel is "to die for".

I decided to analise this film as i thought it was a good horror/ thriller film that offered plenty of blood , gore and suspense. The film is rated as an 18 however from the responses the film recieved from the public , some feel that it should be higher. The film's release was accompanied by strong complaints from Slovakia where the film was set and based in. Slovak officials were disgusted by the film's portrayal of their country as an undeveloped, poor and uncultured land suffering from high criminality, war and prostitution, fearing that it would damage the good reputation of Slovakia, making foreingers feel that its was a dangerous place to be.
One of the key features i saw watching this film was the actual realism and the believabilty of it.
