My music Magazine

My music magazine is called " Back to Beatsix". I came up with the name as it sounds similar to "Back to Basics " but the Beatsix referred to music which my magazine is based on. The title and name of the magazine is on the top centre of the magazine where it would  stand out on the shelves. The white text against the black background makes it stand out of the page and makes a bold statement. The size and style of font helps this as i used Elephant serif style font which makes it bold and strong.  The layout is basic in its appearance and colour scheme. The predominate colours are red, white and black , which are similar to that of Q magazine.
I used my own original photography for the image in the centre of the page, which is also one of the focus points on the page along with the title. I tried to display it as an album cover by having the name of the artist and the name of the album on it. I felt the image related to the name of the album as the girl is trapped in netting but she is being let loose by releasing her first album, hence why its called unleashed. for this i used a close up shot , which focuses mainly on her face. i used high key lighting coming from the left which highlights her face and hair.  The image is striking and engaging as she is making direct eye contact with the audience which will draw them into the magazine. Her body language and presence is interesting to look at as her facial expression is inviting and slightly seductive. Her red hair is striking which i exaggerated slightly using photo shop but it also fits in with the colour scheme of the magazine. However if i could improve on the image , it would be to make it larger and have it over the whole of the magazine with the text over it , like most typical magazine, also i think i would have a Little bit more text , so that it is abit more informative for the audience , as i have substituted this by making the text in larger font size.

The text around the image is smaller than the title so it doesn;t take away from either of the two focus points of the front cover. Ive used words such as " Exclusive" which the reader will be interested in and will leave them wanting to know more. For this i also displayed it in a large bold font so that it stands out on the page.
also by having some word such as " MASSIVE REVIEW ISSUE" makes them look important , so the reader feels they need to read it .
I have included articles with the black eyed peas as they are currently the number one band in the world and are actually touring at the moment. By having a well known and famous artist name or image on the front cover, will get people to read the magazine.
I have shown other articles on the front cover e.g. " TOP 50 DOWNLOADED SONGS OF 2011". This is in block capitals and huge size font which really makes it pop out of the page. Also i have purposely made "TOP 50" in larger font as it makes it look important but it also makes 50 look like a huge big number, which people will be interested in . Also i think by having this article , it will persuade people to buy the magazine to see what are the top 50 downloaded songs and if they are up to date with the latest and coolest music of the year.
As i am doing a music magazine i thought that i could incorporate some sort of information of up coming performances by certain bands and artists. So i have included a line up page for the two biggest festivals in the country , Reading and V-Festival.  Here people can see what bands are performing over the weekend
period . This will definitely encourage people to buy the magazine as it makes them feel special being the first to see the line up and to see if their favourite band or artist is playing there.
Oerall i am pleased with the outcome of my music magazine front cover and the layout of it. There are areas where i think i could improve on and  if i could start again , such as enlarging the central image to cover the whole of the magazine, and maybe desizing the text so its not so much in your face and loud.

Q contents

Again i looked and analysed and contents page form Q music magazine. The contents page consists of 3 prime colours, red, white and black. Each are used for different purposes and are asscocitaed with the magazine itself. The red is used as as border , to topic and number the text and articles without it looking crammed. This allows it to be readable at a much faster pace.
The black is used to inform the audience of basic information.
The white is used in the background which allows the different coloured text's to stand out against each other therefore allowing information not to be missed.

The pictures represent to the audience the main articles in the magazine without reading it. It allows them to gain quick knowledge of other features . Also it suggests the larger the image the more important it is , which will interest the reader.
In both Q magazine and NME , there is a mixture of posed and live, black and white photography. This gives it a more journalist feel and makes it more visually interesting. The photography also makes it easier to identify which artist is which by the angle shot used and quality of the images.

The pronounced use of " subscribe today " is a sly yet effective way of persuading people to get the magazine on a regular occasion.
the images used on the content page feature a variety of artists , making the magazine and even greater prospect as the audience will feel more engaged and want to read the magazine more, by showing bands like Foo Fighters of the content.

In the bottom corner , it instantly  informs the audience of the page which they are currently viewing. The typography of this text allows it to stand out and connotes its importance.

The shot in the middle is shot suing a mid shot , face on angle shot, focusing on her top half of her body. Whats draws you are the contrasting colours of her gold sequined dress and red statement making hair.
The main focus of this contents page , is the photo of Florence Welsh from " Florence and the Machine". Although there is no text about her or article about her, she is still the focus point which will lead readers into Turing to page 96 to see what is written about how, leaving the reader wanting to know more.

Q front cover

I decided to analyse a front cover of a music magazine to get inspiration and ideas for when i make my own. I looked at two , one from NME and the other Q. I particularly liked Q as the front cover used bold and colourful imagery which featured one of my favourite bands , Coldplay. The letter Q is easily recognisable and is associated with the music magazine. The white text against the red background makes it very bold and makes it standout on the shelves. Q itself stands for Queiten Richardson who is the maker of the magazine.

The anchorage text links the central image to the topics of the article. The central image suggests that the main article will be about chris martin as he is th onely person on the front cover , also they have shown this by having all the text on the outside of the image which drwas attention to it.
By showing on the front cover that their will be a exclusive interview with a celebrity married couple , makes the reader feel they are bonding with the rich and famous. . This interests both msuic lovers and readers who are interested in the private life of public figures.

The magzine Q is targeted towards a mass stream audience , as each issue varies in genres of msuic so it doesnt stay aimed at one spcific audience taste in music. unlike other magazine e.g " Kerrang"  who have genres of rock/ heavy metal. By doing this Q gain a larger mass audience as it appeals to a wider range of people.

Intertextuality is interesting and makes the audience feel their up to date with the newest and latest music. The way the text is placed in connotes to the audinece as though the text is rare which is emphasised via the colouring and style and shape of the text and background.

They have used a longshot which exposes his whole body and drwas immediate attention to him as he takes up the most of the page. they have also edited th eimage by using photoshop to increase the colour intensity and adjust any imperfections. His outfit works well with the background creating a radiant and colourfull front cover which will stand out on the shelf.
