Shot types and Camera angles

Close up shot  - Shows characters emotions , makes them feel vunerable.

High Angle shot- Makes us feel Dominan. High angle shots also make the figure or object seem vulnerable or powerless.

Mid Shot Two shot- Focuses on those two people everything else is out of focus.

Point of view shot - Connects with the scene , see through there eyes.

Low angle shot - ( worms eye shot ) Makes you feel intimidated .

Long shot  - Gives you an overview - more in the frame.

Mid Shot - shows a character usually cut off across the legs above or below the knees. It is wide enough to show the physical setting in which the action is taking place, yet it is close enough to shot facial expression

Extreme Close up - Brings focus on something / someone important or an object. Shows only a part of a character's face. It fills the screen with the details of a subject.

Establishing / Aerial shot -

Tracking shot -Follows the action on a track .

Pan Shot - Camera stays in one place.

Birds eye view shot - Suspended above , capturing all of the action.

Over the shoulder shot -  is a close-up of a character as seen over-the-shoulder of another person in the foreground.

Conventions of a horror/Thriller genre

Typically you have alot of suspence which is created mainly by dark shadowy lighting and dramatic/ fast tempo music. The locations are often isolated and in quiet towns where not much happens.
You often have cliffhanger endings and a composed begining which adds to the suspence of the film. Through out the film , despite the traps ,death and fear there is always one survivor which is typically a girl.

What is Suspence ?
Suspence creates a feeling of uncertainsy and apprehension about what is yet to happen. One feature of suspence is that it often involves surprise. It often puts characters in unexpected situations which may quickly take a turn for the worse and lead to a clever twist.

Match on action
It means when something happens in the scene , then when there is a cut, the same peice of action must be going on.
Shot/reverse shot
Its a technique where one character is shown looking at another and the other character is shown looking back. This makes viewers assume they are looking at eachother.
